A few years back - back when all of this was still more theoretical than it was now - a friend of mine had asked the question... now, if all of this came to pass, if the world was going to be destroyed and all the billionaires escaped in a spaceship and we were to left on a dying planet...
this was an ethical dilemma, you see...
so, if all of this happened like this and you happened to be near the launch site with a rocket launcher, able to just detonate their ark... fully knowing that it wouldn't help you AND end humanity, would you do it?
I think this is an interesting question to ponder and I think there is a "correct" answer to this. I also believe that this this is also an issue as they are preparing to live their days in their bunker, absolutely confident that none of us is going to dump some Sarin into their shit.
I'm reminded of a line from a superhero movie made by a fictional billionaire hero (so you *know* it's fictional) where he goes: “…if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damn well sure we'll avenge it.”
I mean…? Tony Stark is a whole-ass mess of a human character, but… you know.
Besides, if we're talking about the billionaires, why should *we* let *them* rebuild humanity? To paraphrase a quote from another movie: They're the ones that suck.
Thanks for the recommendation for “Survival of the Richest” (At least I think you’re recommending it).
Something else I wanted to say, even though I feel that it’s kind of stupid, is about that quote from Scam Altman about what he’s got in his bunker: Why does he have to specify that his gas masks are from the IDF? I know it seems weird to focus on that but why the IDF? You can get military-grade gas masks anywhere and he chose the IDF specifically.
I mean it doesn’t matter at the end of the day because knowing how much of an idiot he is he’s either gonna forgot to change the filters or he bought old filters that are still filled with Asbestos.
Thank you for this additional insight. It's hard to overstate how crude and cruel all this is. To try to escape from the societal and political disasters one has helped to wrought to some imagined place of safety is like setting fire to one's own house and letting one's loved ones burn while hastening to another place (presumably to then repeat the whole process?).
"On this ever-revolving wheel of life
The individual self goes round and round
Through life after life, believing itself
To be a separate creature, until
It sees its identity with the Lord of Love
And attains immortality in the indivisible whole."
―The Shvetashvatara Upanishad
No uploading of any minds into computers required to become immortal. Immortality is already granted―through love and connection, not ill will and retreat into separateness.
Gruesome thought: The servants they’ll want in their bunkers will end up killing them once the rest of us seal the exits.
They think we’re all going to kill each other instead of banding together to destroy them. But guess what? Most regular people are kind, decent, and empathetic, which people like the bunker billionaires can’t grasp because they’re so out of touch with humanity.
Read Annie Jacobson's book Nuclear War: A Scenario and you will realize that whatever escape plans and survival structures these monsteronaires are preparing will not save them. A full nuclear war, the mass fire destruction, long-term fallout, and then even longer nuclear winter will make their bunkers, islands, or survival lands useless after but a year or two. Unless they started the war, or had advanced notice of the first salvo, they wouldn't even have time to get to their hideouts. A slightly longer survival time might be found in the nuclear subs, but even these don't have the capacity for long-term (e.g., 20 years) sustaining of life on board. Some humans may survive, but it will be by random chance, accidents of timing, social resilience, and genetic heritage. What a waste of financial and human capital, which is of course exactly the one talent these cretins share.
An adjacent fact to what I once heard is the staff and security in particular that they hire at bunkers are kept under control because the wealthy owner is the person that knows the code to the food storage.
Because in their apocalypse fantasy, twatting them over their head with a rifle butt until they share the code is just simply a thing that doesn't happen to people.

Fix expanding foam sprayer to small drone, plug up all air vents, wait three days, spend as much time as you like breaking into the place.
Putting it more succinctly…

Somehow you make this subject fun to study. Their philosophy seems to have some holes.

How stupid are these people? Navy Seal to-do list: 1) Kill billionaire; 2) Enjoy shelter.
One can only hope.
🤣
The men who sold the world will be fine.

Let's hope their bunkers have the same issue as the USS Ford.

If all else fails, the body of even a worthless tub like Mark Zuckerberg has a few thousand calories in it.
I can't afford a private bunker but what about an apocalypse timeshare?
Lol………
